The global sugar market is described as “diversified.”
True… most of the time.
Brazil, India, Thailand, the European Union, and China collectively account for the majority of production. Brazil alone represents roughly 35–40% of global exports. India, Thailand, and others contribute to the export pool, but at smaller levels.
Most of the time, this dispersion across multiple regions matter.
Most of the time supply is shaped by weather, policy, and regional output.
Most of the time the market behaves like an agricultural system.
But, there are periods when sugar stops behaving like a crop and begins behaving like a derivative of something else.
